The first brand in the SportOptim universe.

That's right — CyclOptim is the brand. Our first brand. The company behind it is SportOptim — SO to those in the know! And as you can probably tell, we're not planning to stop at cycling.

Our mission: to make technologies once reserved for the professionals accessible to everyone.

Performance matters, but what we're really after is making sport smarter, more enjoyable, and safer through data.

Knowledge is power, as a certain fantasy character once said 🐉🤫. For us, that means the power to train smarter, progress faster, know yourself better — and enjoy every ride more.

Not a vegetable, but we still think local!

SportOptim is a Bordeaux-based company, and from day one we've had a clear goal: to support local industry.

The result is a genuine industrial Tour de France — and we're proud of it.

Your pedals will clock up the miles on your bikes, not before they reach you.

Our Story

2019

The Preludes

Simon, the company's founder, completes his PhD in materials mechanics.

A dedicated mountain biker and all-round cycling enthusiast, he sets out to make a long-held idea a reality: power meters as versatile as his riding.

This marks the beginning of R&D.

2020

Creation of SportOptim

With Romain and Simon driving the project forward, it's time to give it a proper professional foundation. SportOptim is incorporated — registered just days before the first Covid-19 lockdown.

Simon, drawing on a long-standing friendship, brings Xavier on board to lead the marketing and business side.

2021

Kickstarter Campaign

Two years of R&D have delivered a fully functional prototype we're genuinely proud of. The time has come to think seriously about industrialisation — and how to fund it.

We launch a crowdfunding pre-sale campaign to kick-start production and demonstrate the company's potential to external investors. The campaign hits its target, investors come on board, and the banks follow suit — a new chapter begins.

2021/22

Pre-production run

Following the Kickstarter campaign, we faced the challenges that come with any production ramp-up — process reliability, supplier selection, and everything in between.

What made this phase far more complex than anticipated, however, was the industrial disruption caused by Covid. Supply delays and shortages compounded one another, pushing delivery timelines well beyond our original estimates.

The first production units were ultimately delivered in late 2022 and early 2023.

2023/25

Refinements and scaling

Feedback from our pre-production users, combined with ongoing R&D, drives continuous refinements to both the sensors and the software. Our Kickstarter backers become true co-designers — the team runs product recall programmes to incorporate their input and push the hardware even further.

At the same time, we are working with our manufacturing partners to prepare for full-scale production. The goal remains the same: keep it local, keep it accessible.

2026

It's happening!

Six years of R&D, hard-won industrial partnerships, and a move to larger premises better suited to production — still in Bordeaux, of course. The moment has finally come.

We've overhauled our brand identity and website, and made the leap from a showcase site to a fully-fledged e-commerce platform.

We are open for business.

The future

And tomorrow?

The team keeps growing — and so does the range of skills and talent we bring to the table.

R&D and continuous improvement are at the heart of what we do, and without giving too much away… the company is called SportOptim. Let's just say we have no shortage of projects in the pipeline. 😉

Wir hatten einen Bereich für ein Zitat vorgesehen. Aber seien wir ehrlich: Das Team ist zwar brillant, aber inspirierend? Das nun auch wieder nicht!*

— The CyclOp Team

*No need for Google Translate — it literally reads: "We planned a space for a quote. But let's be honest: the team is brilliant, but inspiring? That might be a stretch!" It just sounds more serious in German.

We surrounded ourselves with the right people.
